Hey my name is Zeff and I was wondering if anyone can give me some helpful info regarding the current session scene and if there are any people i should try and get in contact with.

Im of course a drummer and I am in my final year of my degree course at a music academy in England.  I plan to move to LA in about a year and a half's time from now and I am trying to link in my Dissertation with this future goal.

So as i said, if anyone can give me some names of companies that work with session musicians or any particular people that could give me a hand it would be very appreciated.
This could also include some music venues or scenes with regular live music also including jam sessions or anything.

If you could reply here i can then give some contact details if you know of anyone i should try and speak to etc.

All the best

Much Love

Zeff

Hello,

Great news for all drummers,  On Thursday, February 18th @ 6:00 pm PST, there is an live performance by JANKS.

Watch the JANKS perform live at Drum Channel!

The JANKS are a multi-talented musical force from Los Angeles, California with a modern innovative and highly original sound. The band has organic and infectiously catchy songs that are quickly gaining national attention. Their unique and modern sound is inspired by a wide variety of musical influences including folk, jazz, classical, blues rock and pop. The Janks have a penchant for telling tall tales in varying proportions of folk sincerity and unbridled guitargasm. They are dynamic melody makers experimenting with some heartfel words, a loose canon and a few ideas that slipped out of Tom Waits; hat after attending a Radiohead concert.

Band:

Zack Zmed - Lead Vocals, Keyboard, Songwriter

Garth Herbert - Guitar, Vocals, Keyboard, Fender Rhodes & Wurlitzer stage piano, Songwriter/Composer

Lucas Ventura - Drums

Dylan Zmed - Vocals, Guitar, Keyboard, Mandolin, Percussion

Wade Ryff - Bass, Guitar, Vocals

Check out this DC Live Show.

Thanks, Chuck.  Yeah, music retail has got to be a tough gig these days.  We'll keep an eye on it and post any news.  Hope they work it out, too.

From what Linda told me, the overhead was just getting to be too much and she said they landlord was raising the rent.  She said they're going to try to reopen in a different location although she didn't have any details.  I was bummed, it was a great place to hang and they always had my sticks (Vater Blazer, wood tip) and I picked up a sweet Sabian crash there...hope they find another space.

So, it seems L.A. is back to one independent corner drum shop.  Chad Sexton's Drum City in North Hollywood is recently deserted.  Anyone know the story?  If their business model was misguided, their heart certainly seemed in the right place.  Sorry to see it go.
